Tedi Spalato is one of the trademarks of Dalmatia. With sincere and intimate lyrics, full of emotions, his songs tell of love, accompanied by the quiet and soft sound of the guitar.
Tedi Spalato was born into a family of amateur musicians and began singing and playing various instruments at an early age. He was a member of a klapa, studied with Marinko Katunarić and Ljubo Stipišić, sang in the ensemble ‘Anima’ in which he simultaneously learned about African-American spiritual and jazz music.
Since 1982, he has been a member of the band ‘More’, but three years later he went solo. He has performed at many domestic and international festivals and has won many awards. He is the owner of two Porin awards – for the album ‘Uživo u Lisinskim’ in 2001 and for vocal collaboration on the song ‘Ti i ja’ in 2006.
Spalato also showed his talent at the Croatian National Theatre Split, where he acted in operettas, dramas and ballet performances.
Over the years, he has remained faithful to his roots, Dalmatian narrow streets and guitar, and his songs such as ‘Dalmatino povišću pritrujena’, ‘More snova’, ‘I sve ću preživit’, ‘Moje izgubljeno blago’, ‘Lipote gladan, ljubavi žedan’… are all-time hits.
Critics call him one of the best vocalists and guitarists in this region, who has a constant desire to combine classic Dalmatian songs with jazz and world-music elements, and his fans consider him the heart and original sound of Dalmatia.
