Situato a un&#8217;altezza di 85 metri, nella parte nord-occidentale dell\u2019isola di Veglia, domina su un golfo lungo quasi 3 kilometri. Questa favorevole ubicazione fu apprezzata gi\u00e0 nella preistoria e, per questa ragione, Omi\u0161alj \u00e8 stato abitato per diversi millenni.<\/p><p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Sull\u2019altra sponda della penisola di Ert, che da sud-ovest circonda il golfo, fu probabilmente eretto, nel periodo romano, Fulfinium, nei pressi di Kurikum (Krk), a quei tempi il secondo villaggio per importanza dell\u2019isola; si ritiene sia scomparso durante la caduta dell&#8217;Impero Romano, nel V secolo, o forse un po\u2019 pi\u00f9 tardi. Omi\u0161alj viene menzionato per la prima volta nel 1153. Oggi, considerato uno dei villaggi pi\u00f9 antichi dell\u2019isola, Omi\u0161alj \u00e8 un centro glagolita e culturale di rilievo.<\/p><p data-uw-styling-context=\"true\">Le serpeggianti strade di pietra del centro e la linea di strette case custodiscono la sua preziosa eredit\u00e0 storica e culturale.
