Explore places on Krk →The Baška Tablet was found on the Island of Krk — one of the most precious cultural and historical artefacts of Croatia. Carved around 1100 AD in the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor near Baška, it is the oldest preserved document written in Glagolitic script in the Croatian language.
The Glagolitic script — the Old Slavonic script created in 863 AD by Saints Cyril and Methodius — lived longest on Krk in all of Croatia, until the 20th century. Its traces are still all around you.
Discover Glagolitic heritage →Carved in the Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor near Baška. The oldest preserved text in Glagolitic script written in the vernacular Old Croatian language. Today kept at the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb; a replica is in Baška.
Krk was the last stronghold of the Glagolitic script in Croatia — priests used it in the liturgy until the 1920s. Today traces are preserved in stone inscriptions, church books and folk tradition.
Krk cuisine is based on tradition and fresh local ingredients — olive oil awarded at international competitions, the indigenous Žlahtina white wine and fresh fish straight from the sea.
